Make the impossible possible; the possible easy; and the easy elegant

Talya Jehoshafat Physiotherapy

The core of my practice is Neuro Physiotherapy which addresses movement disorders that have resulted from some type of damage to the Central Nervous System.

About my work

I treat both neuro and conventional movement disorders.

I have the privilege of working with clients who have shown me how motivation and the willingness to work together can retrain neural pathways in order to regain functional activities. This aspect of my work is truly inspiring.

Talya Jehoshafat

BSc. Physiotherapy UCT Reg. Physiotherapy PR No. 0 3409 79

I went back to study Physiotherapy at the University of Cape Town as a mature student after an early career in teaching. I brought with me a deep interest in the human body which I had developed as a practicing masseuse. I discovered my passion for Neuro Physiotherapy early in my training and took the first opportunity to study post graduate Neuro Development Therapy.

I studied further, adding Bobath training to deepen my understanding of assessing and treating neurological conditions. I have also studied the LSVT BIG program for the treatment of Parkinson’s.

I continue to study and attend courses, conferences and workshops and delight in the pleasure it brings me to continue learning about the mysteries of the brain, the body and my profession.

Some of the conditions that I treat include

How I work

Movement is such a significant expression of who we are. Being aware of our body and how we move has a powerful impact on how we behave and feel.

I work to create a freedom of movement, using current evidence-based Physiotherapy practices. Current research is reflecting the profound long-term benefits of exercise in the rehabilitation process. I work using this approach of functional exercise balanced with appropriate and well-timed body work.

I spend time understanding my clients beyond their presenting condition. I have learnt that context is critical to rehabilitation. I work with the whole person and where required, with their family and care givers. When you come in to my rooms you are not just a “hemi” or a “painful back”.

I refer and consult with a variety of other health professionals in the broad rehabilitation field in order to ensure all my client’s needs are cared for.
